Conditions in Texas are worsening as days go on.. while huge death tolls are not apart of Ike's aftermath, news of scare resources like water, gas, and food are. .And with the lack of important elements to human sanity, so goes hope. Increasingly, people losing their hope.. Houston's food bank director says that the city is being overwhelmed. Only days ago, the fundamentals of human life were strong along the Texas Gulf Coast--and now days after Ike devastated islands, towns, cities, and history, the fundamentals of life are hard to find. Health officials are working their hearts out to try to avoid an all out crisis after the monster hurricane. Misery extends North: Flooding in the Midwest in Ike's path.. HOW MUCH DAMAGE? THE MORNING AFTER IKE

While Hurricane Ike is far from finished damaging Texas and Louisiana, the area of Galveston, Texas, has been hit hard by the massive monster that came from the Gulf of Mexico.. Ike's eye traveled over Galveston around 2:10am CDT Saturday.. Even at this current hour, rescue workers are being inundated with calls from people in distress--calls that cannot be acted on in many cases. Warnings for days called for "certain death" and for social security numbers to be written on arms, yet thousands of people in Galveston and other communities in the bulls eye stayed in an attempt to ride out the storm.. Gas prices are up to $5.50 in Texas and Florida.. many gas stations are closed.. The extent of the damage from Ike is still to be assessed.. Many are fearing what could have happened to the thousands of people that chose to ride out the storm.. The low-line communities were faced during the early morning hours with a wall of water, high storm surge, 110 mph winds and gusts to 130mph.. Reports from various news sources that 4 million plus are without power--and this power could be off for several weeks to come.. MORE: The AP reporting today,

"Massive Hurricane Ike ravaged southeast Texas early Saturday, battering the coast with driving rain and ferocious wind gusts as residents who decided too late they should have heeded calls to evacuate made futile calls for rescue"

Authorities are bracing for the worst.. The storm is poised to take turn towards Arkansas later today.. President Bush due to make news statement this morning.. John McCain today got a phone briefing from Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff ..And Obama is going to lay off of comedy: He was due to make an appearance tonight on the season opener of Saturday Night Live, that cameo canceled due to Ike's aftermath.. Families not heeding warning tonight in Galveston.. facing certain death.. DESTRUCTION: HURRICANE IKE SLAMS TURKS AND CAICOS AS CAT 4 STORM; PRIEMER SAYS PEOPLE WERE COWERING IN CLOSETS AND HIDING UNDER STAIRWELLS IN FEAR

Massive Hurricane Ike turns into a monster as it roars over Turks and Caicos.. the Grand Turk Island devastated by the storm this morning.. According to AP reporting this morning,

"Turks and Caicos premier Michael Misick said Ike damaged 80 percent of the homes on the main island and that hundreds lost their roofs as the hurricane made a near-direct hit. People have been cowering in closets and under stairwells and "just holding on for life. They got hit really, really bad," he told The Associated Press Sunday morning. With 135 mph (215 kph) winds, Ike was swirling on from the tiny British territory to the Bahamas' Great Inagua Island, where about 85 people inside a community center shelter huddled around a radio."

Grand Turk is the capital of Turks and Caicos--and is home to 3,000 people. 3,000 people that held on for their lives through the massive Category 4 storm.. According to reporting on CNN this morning,

""People are losing roofs by the second," said Audley Astwood, a reporter at a radio station in Grand Turk said. "Close to 50 percent of the homes on Grand Turk have been destroyed or lost roofs.""

* * * * And now it's Haiti: The cleanup effort from Gustav being seriously hampered by Ike .. relief efforts have become dangerously unable to continue--thousands still have not eaten since Hanna rolled over the country days ago.. Many places still destroyed from Gustav, and neighborhoods flooded is common.. * * * * And then where? The United States has been closely watching Ike as it rolls over the Caribbean. Governors Crist, Barbour, Jindal, Perry, Riley, Perdue, and Sanford all closely watching Ike is it stretches its destruction over Cuba and then the Gulf of Mexico--hoping the massive hellstorm doesn't hit their respective state. Hurricane Ike is going to weaken as it continue to strike land--but forecasters have noted that it will be over warmer waters again by Wednesday next week.. The cone of uncertainty from the National Hurricane Center showing a westward track..however Ike appears to be dangerous close to oil rigs, New Orleans, and the United States by 2am Friday.. The prospects of a United States strike from Ike is an almost sure bet .. so is the possibility that Ike will strengthen to a Cat 3 or beyond by week's ends.. Warnings.. watches. Watching..

IKE: WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

Florida..? Cuba?? ...The Gulf Coast all over again? People across the Caribbean are closely watching the progress tonight of Hurricane Ike, a deadly and intensifying storm in the Atlantic Ocean.. The storm has been making progress towards the United States.. new computer projections tonight put the storm over Cuba next week and into the Gulf Coast later in the week. From that point, the mystery: A few long range outlooks place the storm near Texas.. some show Ike meandering and strengthening in the Gulf.. a few take Ike near Louisiana and Texas.. A storm needed to be watched carefully over the next few days.. Late tonight, Ike was upgraded to a Category 4 storm. A strong monster churning in the Atlantic poised to strike .. somewhere ..

Henry Margusity from Accuweather writing tonight,

"The operational models are painting a dangerous situation for the Gulf coast next week. I am concerned that we may be dealing with a Cat 3 or better strike somewhere between Port Arthur and Mobile Bay late in the week. The worst case would be a southeast strike of an intensifying hurricane on New Orleans and southeast Louisiana. Given that Gustav has weakened things, Ike could be the devastation we all fear could happen this year. In any case, folks along the Gulf coast need to keep watching this one and get ready for evacuations next week"

So much for Hanna

Hanna moved on shore with little fireworks.. There was beach erosion, high winds, and heavy rains over the Carolinas.. Hanna will be quickly moving up the East Coast today, causing some flooding rains and some gusty winds. That's it. The media attention was pretty funny this go around.. Thank God there was no damage but you'd sure as hell think they were craving it.. This morning MSNBC was reporting from a beach in North Carolina. Wind was blowing.. the reporter looked like he was struggling to stand---just as two tourists in the background casually walked past the camera and headed to the water to take a look at Hanna's waves.. The reporter had no choice but to tout the danger factor of being outside when a tornado could strike any time.. His light coat fluttering in the breeze.. *There is power out for more than 20,000 customers in Virginia.. I'm not downgrading the storm, but Hanna was not serious* A few updates over Hanna: Latest advisory.. .. Hanna satellite.. Radar.. The storm to watch: Ike..

Forecasters have stopped saying Ike is going to hit the Southeast Coast, instead they are placing the storm somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday next week .. The frightening possibilities of the storm making landfall somewhere around New Orleans, or other places still devastated by Gustav..

HOW MANY HURRICANES IN ONE OCEAN CAN FORM?

According to history books on weather, the most total storms at one time ever recorded....drum roll...

"Four hurricanes occurred simultaneously on two occasions. The first occasion was August 22, 1893, and one of these eventually killed 1,000- 2,000 people in Georgia South Carolina. The second occurrence was September 25, 1998, when Georges, Ivan, Jeanne and Karl persisted into September 27, 1998 as hurricanes. Georges ended up taking the lives of thousands in Haiti. In 1971 from September 10 to 12, there were five tropical cyclones at the same time; however, while most of these ultimately achieved hurricane intensity, there were never more than two hurricanes at any one time (from Blake et al. 2005.) "

And while major disaster seems to have been averted at this hour in New Orleans, there are other storms coming.. Major damage taking place in Western Louisiana .. Mississippi officials said a 15-foot storm surge flooded homes and inundated the only highways to coastal towns devastated by Katrina .. Tornado warnings all across the Gulf Coast from the Florida panhandle back to Texas.. Hurricane force winds in a widespread area across New Orleans.. Gustav downgraded to a Cat 2 storm (however, please remember, 115 MPH was a Cat 3, Gustav is now at 110 MPH, so a Cat 2 is NOT a huge difference).. Various cities across the Gulf, including the city of New Orleans, is watching and praying that their levees hold. New Orleans is not getting a direct hit, but instead is on the Northeast quadrant of the storm.. People of Grand Isle are worried about a storm surge..A possible high storm surge.. The big three, FOX NEWS, MSNBC, and CNN have gone wall to wall with Gustav coverage.. The main focus of the nets appears to be on New Orleans. Advice of experts appears to have been heeded.. Officials say that 90% of the townspeoples have gone.. Somewhere. Hopefully safe.. Bobby Jindal, Ray Nagin, and George W. Bush have warned of dire circumstances at this critical time before Gustav comes on land.. While people along the Gulf Coast fear what oculd happen once Gustav comes on land, FEMA is eager to show America and the world what it says it learned since Katrina three years ago. Gustav is winding up in the Gulf.. preparations are underway across the South.. Hurricane hunters watching for signs of the big storm becoming a Cat 5, something that is now expected in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.. Gustav's impact: Tides reaching at least 9-12 feet above normal and winds potentially of Category 3 status, or at least 111 mph, as it slams into the coastline of the Gulf.. Widespread flooding expected.. 6 to 12 inches of rain. .low line areas will be affected by the massive rains .. there will also be isolated tornadoes.. We can only hope and pray that the path of Gustav will keep New Orleans out of the most harm (*although looking at long range models, Hanna may also be a fear*).. but today we are learning that those who stay in New Orleans during Gustav will have on shelter .. Police with bullhorns going through the streets of the city this weekend announcing that if you don't leave now, there will be no shelter, you are on your own.. The doors of the Superdome are going to be locked this time around.

Weather is not an exact science, but when you are just getting over a major hurricane three years ago and see another on the horizon, you want exact..New computer models are showing a frighteningly strengthening Gustav in the Gulf.. Exploding into a powerful category 3 storm--some weather forecasters expect a cat 4 before it's over, a few have worried aloud that a Cat 5 storm may not be out of the question. President Bush has declared a state of emergency in Louisiana--and Texas. The latest projected path shows landfall 2am Tuesday Southwest of New Orleans--however new models shown on the Weather Channel this morning show a curve at the last minute away from the United States and back South into the Gulf! Possibly strengthening even more.. As the storms gets stronger, nonessential oil workers in the Gulf have been evacuated.. Worries over $4 a gallon gas for Labor Day--even $5 a gallon if the storm hits Gulf oil fields and causes widespread damage.. And it's not over after Gustav--Hanna is next. And "Ike" is in its making off the coast of Africa.. Ladies and gentlemen, and readers of all shapes and sizes: Gas up the cars before Tuesday. This could get bad...

Today is the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.. As memorial services played out in New Orleans to mark the tragic events of three years ago when the state, local, and federal government all failed, a new storm (and maybe 2) on the horizon is causing fear along the Gulf Coast. And fear, again, three years later, in the city of New Orleans.. Hurricane Gustav, now over open water, is set to explode into a hell storm in the Gulf of Mexico.. Accuweather is predicting that a building high pressure in the United States will force Gustav to Louisiana.. A map tonight on Accuweather shows Louisiana is set to get extreme damage from Gustav.. Henry Margusity wrote today of the 'ultimate disaster' in which two storms, Gustav and Hanna, could strike the Gulf Coast and play havoc with the nation's oil production.. Hello Cristobal

A tropical depression off the Southeast Coast has formed into Tropical Storm Cristobal.. At 2 p.m. EDT Saturday, the center of the storm was about 100 miles east of Charleston, S.C., and about 225 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C. It's moving toward the northeast at about 7 mph and was expected to hug the Carolinas for the next two days.. The storm track keeps Cristobal off the coast of Northeast and into Atlantic by 2pm Tues..

Bertha has lost some steam, Bermuda has a tropical storm watch instead of hurricane watch. One tourist interviewed by the Associated Press joked that he is happy on the island during the storm as long as his hotel has a minibar.

Forecasters say that the storm strength may flucuate over the next few days..
