The green solution to the economy: A bad deal?

THE ECONOMIST magazine rains on the parade of greenies that think a New Deal to clean the environment and make money would end up being a bad deal. From the story:
"The easy notion that there is a single solution to the world’s economic and climatic problems is, thus, a dangerous one. Yet there is a synergy, though a subtler one, between the two issues. In the midst of a financial crisis seen as emanating from Wall Street, a demonstration of leadership would help burnish "Brand America". Combating climate change, which demands technological and financial resources of the sort that only America has, offers the right sort of challenge. The world needs America to lead the fight against climate change. But if Mr Obama goes about it the easy way, rather than the right way, he will discredit the cause he espouses, and thus damage the planet instead of saving it."
On a somewhat similar note, about 400 windmills now surround town I live in. They look a bit like the WAR OF THE WORLD on top of the hills.. but they're not moving. Maybe they're still being installed. Or perhaps Eastern PA just isn't as windy as some people hoped it would be..?

POLLUTION!? WHAT POLLUTION.. IT'S JUST 'MIST'

China officials are trying to ease fears tonight by telling athletes and journalists in the country for the Olympics that the pollution all over around is only 'mist'..

Even more, one of the International Olympic Committee's most senior figures dismissed the yellow-grey haze that periodically hangs over the city as mist, and blamed the media for overstating pollution problems..

Mist.

The mist.. not the Stephen King mist, I hope..

But at least Stephen King's mist was fiction..

The filth hanging in the air in China is very real.

Also interesting today, China actually fired 'anti-smog pellets' into the sky over Beijing--just as an earthquake hit! The 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the western Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Gansu today..

Mist is mist.. but an earthquake is an earthquake..

And maybe, just maybe, that mist is actually pollution, regardless of what the 'best face forward' Olympic committee may be saying..

ICE ICE BABY IS GONE BABY GONE

The UK INDEPENDENT with a frightening exclusive story: Ice is gone from the North Pole! From the alarming article:
"It seems unthinkable, but for the first time in human history, ice is on course to disappear entirely from the North Pole this year. The disappearance of the Arctic sea ice, making it possible to reach the Pole sailing in a boat through open water, would be one of the most dramatic – and worrying – examples of the impact of global warming on the planet. Scientists say the ice at 90 degrees north may well have melted away by the summer."
And now, the new question in the age of ice being gone: Who will get there first to drill for oil!?
