The weather will continue to cause problems for the Winter Games

REUTERS PHOTO
Both events for the men, and the women, have been postponed in Vancouver due to light rain and warm temperatures. Years ago when Vancouver was chosen as the location for to the 2010 winter games, who ever would have thought that Washington D.C. would have been colder and snowier than Canada!

But it is.. the perfect storm of a warm El Nino winter is hitting the Olympic games and causing havoc for organizers.. The events are being postponed due to the danger than melting slush is creating. The last thing Olympics organizers want is a death on their hands. The games opened with tragedy with the sad death of a luge athlete.. Though early reports speculated that warm weather added to the danger of the luge track, a quick probe and decision was made Friday night to say that the track itself was not the issue.. Some still have doubts.

The troublesome decision over whether to postpone or continue will happen throughout the next two weeks.. A look at the extended outlook for Vancouver clearly shows that over the next ten days, both day and night temperatures will be above freezing, adding to the misery of decision makers at the games. Even more, there are even several chances of rain not only during the daylight hours, but the typically cold hours of night.

The weather is also disrupting the training and practice of athletes.. The weather quickly putting the games schedule in disarray.. One blog from Arizona asks 'is this Vancouver or Phoenix?'

The games did begin... but the weather doesn't care.

If Vancouver needs snow, there's a few cities named New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Baltimore that are most likely able to share a few feet..And snow is possible again Monday in all the cities hit with two blizzards..
