Hard work pays off: Dr. Julie Gerberding Named President of Merck Vaccines

Dr. Julie Gerberding was director of the Centers for Disease Control from 2002 through 2009..

Gerberding was instrumental in the government's preparations for the swine flu vaccines.. Vaccines that eventually were in short supply and after supplies were received, the flu proved less deadly than what the government and media warned..

The press release is kind:
Vaccines are a cornerstone of Merck's commitment to health and wellness," said Richard T. Clark, chairman and chief executive officer, Merck & Co., Inc. "We are delighted to welcome an expert of Dr. Gerberding's caliber to Merck. As a preeminent authority in public health, infectious diseases and vaccines, Dr. Gerberding is the ideal choice to lead Merck's engagement with organizations around the world that share our commitment to the use of vaccines to prevent disease and save lives." "
The Doctor now in the house, leading Merck's $5 billion vaccine business..

However, not all are enthusiastic about Gerberding's new job..

Website the Age of Autism remarks sarcastically,
"Wow... Congratulations Julie! Who would have guessed that you would be the one person in the whole world that Merck would want to head their vaccine division? Oh... that is right... we did.

Me, January 10, 2009:

"Anyone wanna start bets on where our friend Julie will land? Eli Lilly? Merck perhaps? ""

Another perhaps unhappy with Julie's newfound luck at the $5 billion dollar vaccine industry at Merck: Jenny McCarthy..

In 2008, Adventures in Autism reported that McCarthy called for Gerberding's resignation.. Autism advocate McCarthy remarked,
"The chances of Ms. Gerberding taking the radical steps to reform the CDC and reform our vaccine schedule to make it kid-safe are zero! We need a new CDC Director who is an open-minded reformer and who recognizes that we are experiencing an epidemic of autism, which Ms. Gerberding has never publicly admitted"

Others are alarmed at the blurred lines between government and corporation.. Farmers have long screamed about the close relationship between government agencies and the company Monsanto..

Some in the autism awareness movement got their wish: Gerberding has finally left the CDC.. However, now she's on to a bigger and better world of vaccine productions..
