A piece of solid rock roughly the size of a ten story building came closer to Earth that the moon is.. The impact could have had the impact of 1,000 atomic bombs across the planet!

And no one even knows it!

While the East Coast struggled through a Nor'Easter Monday and Wall Street continued sinking to pathetic lows not seen since Hanson Ummmmmbopped its way to fame in 1997, an asteroid was just over 44,000 miles away from the planet--which is closer than the satellite moon..

2009 DD45 was spotted last Saturday by astronomers at the Siding Spring Survey in Australia.

The asteroid was moving 12 miles a second when it zoomed by Earth around 8:44 am EDT..

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC reports the the universe watching scientific community didn't even know of the asteroid coming until February 28 when it saw a faint dot in the photos taken by Australia.

A whole other world in the universe.. and sometimes slams into our world.. This time it didn't. Not that we would have known anyway.
