GENETICALLY MODIFIED PLANTS, HERE WE COME..
While Mrs. Obama plants her garden with heirloom seeds Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is offering up a whole different version of seeding: Genetically altered crops!
While activists believed that Barack Obama would bring a breath of fresh air and dirt to the world, and thought George W. Bush was in the pocket of big agribusiness companies like Monsanto, Vilsack is raising eyebrows and bringing a less fresh state of new reality.. One that looks and grows a lot like the old.
The Des Moine REGISTER is reporting that the Obama Administration was going to be a friend of GM crops..
Just back from the G8 summit in Italy, Vilsack pledged today to bring a "more comprehensive and integrated" approach to promoting ag biotech overseas. That will be good news to biotech companies such as Pioneer Hi-Bred and Monsanto but it shouldn't be much of a surprise. Vilsack was a vocal backer of the biotech industry as governor, and President Barack Obama has been a supporter as well
Keep on planting.. but what seeds did Michelle sow?
GM crops here we come.. brave new world. Because it worked so well in South Africa..
