Obama, race, and the race

Maybe it was time this all came to a head.. Barack Obama, the first major black contender for President of these United divided states.. Are we that divided? Yes. But should we be. Obama thinks we shouldn't.. For a few weeks, talk radio host Sean Hannity has broadcasted the statements and clips of Obama's minister Jeremiah Wright. Mr. Wright's commentary on America was sometimes boisterous.. sometimes conspiratorial.. sometimes he blamed whites .. sometimes he blamed the government. He said that America's chickens have come home to roost. Obama today, in his first major address, became a true contender for President. He addressed Minister Wright, along with racial tension and problems in America.. He traced back his heritage. .he spoke about his white grandmother, who sometimes said statements against blacks. He brought us back in memory to the distant story of O.J. Simpson, and the more troubled current events of Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath.. It was not only an address that he needed to make, but even more one that the nation was meant to hear. Obama went past Minister Wright. His words soared above the current controversy.. Obama admitted that he heard some of Wright's speeches. He admitted he knew of the words of Wright. We have seen the emails blaring around the world for months. Obama's a militant Muslim..He doesn't even wear a flag pin! Some tried to pin Obama to the words of Wright. But today, the words were trashed. Obama soared above it. He promised something today without even knowing it.. He promised an intellectual and thoughtful conversation about the issue that divides us the most: Race relations in America. The solid South vs the near North. Who can win? Who can lose..? John McCain silent in Iraq. ...while Obama speaks. One observer pointed out to me, "Do voters really want to talk about this when a recession is here?" Maybe not. But this seems to be the first real race conversation in America in generations. The pundits have asked for this speech .. it was put upon him. But he took control of the issue and asked America to speak about race along with him. Pennsylvania read to vote.. Didn't someone once say that PA is three states.. Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, with the South in the middle? Maybe. Time will tell. Until we know for sure, today's speech was a speech. Time will also tell how much race plays into a race...
